Bringing you the Best of ATSA2011

The Accountable Team attended ATSA2011 on 17-18 October 2011 in Melbourne and was proud to present one of the key topics of discussion. During Iain’s presentation - “8 Things Firms are Overlooking When it Comes to Technology”, one of the issues highlighted was the lack of policy’s that firms have in regards to the use of their computer systems. Below you will find the policy’s mentioned during the presentation. If you have questions, or looking at ways you can implement then please contact us for help.

Hope to see you at ATSA2012 – October 8 & 9 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour.

  • Password Policy – Outlines the basic characteristics required in the construction of appropriate passwords. It can be adopted as-is as the companies password policy or be used as a guide towards the creation of a new policy document. The metrics specified herein are based on industry standard best practices but by no means should be taken as absolute; feel free to customize any listed metric to better suit the needs of your business.

  • Mobile Device Acceptable Use Policy – Outlines the baseline behaviors required to ensure that employees, contractors and related parties who use mobile devices, including laptop computers, PDAs, mobile phones, smartphones, and ultra-mobile PCs to access corporate resources for business use do so in a safe, secure manner. It is designed to maximize the degree to which private and confidential data is protected from both deliberate and inadvertent exposure and/or breach. As a signed document, it is an addition to the library of acceptable use policies on file within Human Resources that allow employee behaviors to be consistently managed.

  • Email & Messaging Acceptable Use Policy – E-mail is perhaps the most commonly used application in today’s workplace. It is not only an essential business tool, but a potentially dangerous one if mismanaged. Conscientious management by way of a clear and comprehensive policy is essential. This policy template provides a structure for defining your firms E-mail Acceptable Use Policy.

  • Anti-Virus Policy – Each year, more and more viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are built and released into the wild. Deploying anti-virus software on your desktops and servers is all well and good, but if your users don’t know the “rules of engagement,” your virus prevention efforts could be for naught. Develop and implement your own anti-virus strategy using Accountable Group’s editable anti-virus policy template to guide you.

  • Remote Access Policy – Performing work duties off-site is convenient and productive, but employees need access to network resources from remote locations. This access needs to be managed with the best interests of the company in mind. This poses a unique set of IT issues. A well-crafted policy is an important first step in making remote access work.
